Foamit and Svensk Glasåtervinning Sign 10-Year Extension to Pioneering Circular Economy Partnership

Hasopor AB, a Swedish subsidiary of Nordic circular economy group Foamit, and Svensk Glasåtervinning AB (Swedish Glass Recycling), Sweden’s primary glass recycling company, have announced the extension of their supply agreement for the next ten years. This significant commitment secures the continued process of turning recycled container glass waste into foam glass aggregate, a circular and sustainable lightweight fill material essential for the Swedish infrastructure, building, and construction markets.

Since the partnership began in 2008, it has become a "schoolbook example" of industrial symbiosis and a cornerstone of the circular economy transition in Sweden. Over this period, Hasopor has purchased what was previously waste material from Svensk Glasåtervinning’s recycling process, transforming it into a high-performance construction material.

This collaboration has resulted in the delivery of more than 2 million cubic meters of foam glass gravel to the Swedish market, successfully diverting roughly 400,000 tons of recycled container glass from landfills or other less sustainable uses.

Magnus Andersson, Managing Director of Svensk Glasåtervinning AB, highlights the strategic importance of the partnership: "The extension of this agreement is a clear win for both environmental sustainability and Swedish industry. For over 15 years, our cooperation with Hasopor has provided a critical, high-value end-of-life solution for container glass that cannot be melted down again. It greatly improves the resource loop, transforming a waste stream into a valued product. We are proud to secure this process for another decade."

"Our circular product, made entirely from recycled material supplied by Svensk Glasåtervinning, is a sustainability champion. Foam glass aggregate is light, insulating, and robust—an ideal replacement for virgin or fossil-based materials in projects ranging from railroad- and road construction to insulation applications. This 10-year renewal ensures stability in our supply chain, allowing us to meet the growing demand for circular and carbon-efficient materials in the Swedish construction sector," says Daniel Ellison, Managing Director of Hasopor AB.

"Foamit Group is committed to being a leader in circular material solutions. This long-term contract is a testament to the success of Hasopor's operations and its critical role within the Nordic circular economy. By securing our raw material supply for the next decade, we are positioned to expand the use of foam glass, helping our customers and Sweden transition to a truly sustainable built environment," says Erja Sankari, CEO of Foamit Corporation.

The agreement supports Foamit Corporation’s strategic target of achieving EUR 100 million in revenue and an EBITDA margin of over 20 percent by the end of 2028.
