Unofficial translation of the press release on 24 September 2025. In case the document differs from the original, the Finnish version prevails.

Partnera’s subsidiary Foamit Group celebrates the opening of new production lines in Norway

Foamit Group’s Norwegian subsidiary, Glasopor AS, celebrated the completion of its production investments on 23 September 2025 at its facility in Onsøy. The opening ceremony featured a special honorary guest, Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård, who together with Erja Sankari, CEO of Partnera, representing the owner of Foamit Group, cut the rope attached to a bottle of champagne, which was then crushed into raw material for use on the production line. The event was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Fredrikstad, Bjørnar Laabak, and a group of invited guests, including executives from Partnera and Foamit Group.

The completed investment of approximately EUR 10 million has doubled the foam glass production capacity of the Onsøy plant, which now stands at 280 000 m³ per year. Two new electrically powered production lines were built at the plant, and in near future the existing lines will be modernised to run on electricity. As Foamit Group only uses fossil-free electricity, new production at Onsøy is virtually emission-free. In addition, the lines employ the most efficient energy technology available, making the plant the most energy-efficient foam glass producer in Northern Europe.

“The green transition in the transport sector is not just about electric vehicles, but also about how roads and infrastructure are built and maintained,” Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård said in his speech.

In addition to Norway, Foamit Group has production facilities in Finland and Sweden. Their total annual production capacity is 800 000 m³ of foam glass, which is used as insulation and lightweight material in infrastructure and building construction. Foamit Group also manufactures glass cullet for the packaging glass industry. The company’s goal is to achieve a turnover of EUR 100 million and an operating margin of over 20% by the end of 2028.

“Foamit Group is at the heart of Partnera’s strategy, and we see significant growth potential in its business. The newly completed additional capacity opens up new opportunities for Foamit Group to supply foam glass to large and significant infrastructure and building construction projects, particularly in the Norwegian and Swedish markets, but there are also plans to start exporting,” envisions Erja Sankari, CEO of Partnera.

New raw materials

Foam glass aggregate is a lightening and insulating material that can be used in a versatile range of infrastructure and building construction solutions. A certified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) based on a life cycle assessment has been published for the foam glass manufactured at all Foamit factories. The recycling rate for packaging and flat glass is already around 90 percent, but the recycling of other waste fractions, such as glass wool, is only just getting started.

“We are very proud of Onsøy’s modern production facility. As capacity increases, we are focusing on ensuring a sufficient supply of raw materials. The new production lines that have now been commissioned are suitable for large-scale production as well as for utilising new material flows, and they enable us to add products with a higher degree of processing to our offering,” says Truls Børresen, CEO of Glasopor AS and Country Manager for Foamit Group in Norway.
